Viking Ocean Cruises continues to make waves in the world of luxury travel with the addition of its newest ocean cruise ship, Viking Vela. Officially presented to the cruise line this week at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy, Viking Vela carries on redefining luxury with their small ship cruising, state of the art features and Scandinavian inspired design.

A Modern Design

At 784 feet long, Viking Vela offers 499 elegantly designed cabins, accommodating up to 998 passengers, slightly more than its sister ships, which typically host 930 guests. This new addition takes Viking’s fleet of ocean going ships to a total of 13, each showcasing the signature Scandinavian design. From light filled suites and private verandas to thoughtfully designed public spaces, the ship epitomises modern luxury cruising.

Sustainability

While Viking Vela is equipped with a traditional propulsion system, it stands out as hydrogen ready, meaning it can be retrofitted in the future for enhanced eco friendly capabilities. Viking’s forward thinking initiatives include ongoing projects to develop partial hybrid propulsion systems, aiming for zero-emission operations in environmentally sensitive regions such as the Norwegian Fjords. This commitment underscores Viking’s dedication to environmental projects and showcases how sustainable cruising works.

Exploring the Mediterranean and Northern Europe

Viking Vela will embark on its inaugural season with itineraries across the Mediterranean and northern Europe. For travellers eager to experience Viking’s signature exploration focused approach, fares start at £2,495 per person.

Expansion Plan

Viking Vela is just the beginning of a monumental expansion, with Viking and Fincantieri committed to building 26 additional ships. This ambitious partnership reflects Viking’s confidence in the growing demand for intimate and luxurious cruise experiences.

River Cruising

In addition to its ocean fleet, Viking continues to bolster its river cruise offerings. Earlier this month, the company unveiled two new Nile River ships, each accommodating 82 guests. These additions bring Viking’s fleet on the Nile to a total of 10 ships, further cementing its presence in this iconic destination.

During the naming ceremony in Luxor, Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking, shared his vision for the company:

As our award-winning fleet on the Nile continues to grow, we look forward to introducing even more curious travellers to this phenomenal destination.

The Future

With Viking Vela setting sail and a robust pipeline of new ships on the horizon, Viking is well-positioned to remain a leader in luxury cruising. As Torstein Hagen said:

Together with Fincantieri, we have built the world’s most elegant small ocean ships. With the arrival of our newest ship, we look forward to introducing even more curious travellers to the Viking way of exploration.

Whether it’s exploring the serene waters of the Mediterranean or cruising the historic Nile, Viking offers travellers a chance to discover the world in unparalleled comfort and style.
