Royal Caribbean has released the “most transformational ship the world has ever seen”, the Icon of the Seas. Set to be the ultimate family adventure, this cruise ship features some of the best facilities at sea. Icon of the Seas is the first ship in a new class of ship, the Icon Class. The design throughout is a breath of fresh air compared to the other classes of ship and has been composed with families in mind.
Icon of the Seas will begin sailing by 27th January 2024 out of Miami. The itinerary offers alternative Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings, each with a visit to the private island of Perfect Day at CocoCay.
The ship boasts 20 decks, 7 pools, 6 record-breaking waterslides and not to mention holds a maximum capacity of 7,600 passengers!
8 Neighbourhoods to Explore
The AquaDome is located at the top front of the ship giving unbeatable ocean views. The AquaTheater in this neighbourhood is fully enclosed so the show can be enjoyed whatever the weather. Experience the tallest waterfall at sea, at a huge 55 feet, along with flying artists and divers.
Icon of the Seas has its own version of Central Park, a more lush and lively neighbourhood. This open-air dining area is surrounded by thousands of real plants, making it the perfect place to enjoy the live music onboard.
The entrance of the ship, the Royal Promenade, has been revamped for this class. With endless windows, there are stunning panoramic views with the ‘Pearl’ at the centre. Experience Absolute Zero, a show with cutting edge technology and Olympic level skaters, in the largest ice arena ever built at sea.
Surfside is the ultimate family neighbourhood. It is the first ever area that Royal Caribbean has dedicated especially to young families. With the Splashaway Bay aqua park and Baby Bay alongside, there are so many activities for children to enjoy. Surfside doesn’t forget about the adults, the new Water’s Edge pool is for adults to relax whilst still having their children in sight. This neighbourhood also houses the famous Adventure Ocean kid’s club as well as Social 020 for teens.
The Suite neighbourhood on Icon of the Seas is the largest to date with three decks of space including a two-level sun deck and private pool. The Grove is a new dining venue for suite guests in addition to the two-storey Coastal Kitchen. For the greatest family stay, the ship has debuted the first Ultimate Family Treehouse, a three-level suite filled with excitement for the whole family.
Picturesque Pools
With the feel of a beach club, The Hideaway will make you feel like you are at a Las Vegas pool party. It is home to the first suspended infinity pool at sea where you can enjoy beautiful ocean views surrounded by an incredible terrace.
Chill Island is the ship’s pool deck. The 4 pools in this area host breathtaking views and in-water loungers to experience the ocean in pure relaxation. Visit Swim & Tonic, Royal Caribbean’s first swim-up bar, or for an adults only retreat, discover the Lime & Coconut bar at the Cloud 17 pool. Don’t forget the Royal Bay Pool, the largest pool at sea, to create lasting underwater memories.
Finally, we reach Thrill Island. This is the most spectacular neighbourhood of the ship with so much adventure to be had. The Category 6 waterpark is the largest at sea and possesses 6 record-breaking slides. Experience the first free-fall slide at sea on Pressure Drop or ride on the other tallest, fastest, longest slides in the park. You can also walk the edge of the ship on Crown’s Edge where, at any moment, the skywalk could collapse leaving you dangling above the gleaming water.
The Icon Cabins are a new type of cabin with a variety of them targeted at families. These include the Surfside Family Suite, Family Infinite Balcony, Inside Plus and the Panoramic Ocean View.
Icon of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s first LNG powered cruise ship with a waste heat capture to recycle excess engine heat to take a step towards sustainability.
