Cruise Ship Godmothers, Cunard, Liverpool, Naming Ceremony, Queen Anne

The city of Liverpool was abuzz with excitement as Cunard, one of the world’s most prestigious cruise lines, prepared to unveil its new ship, the Queen Anne. The naming ceremony was a grand affair. With dignitaries and guests from around the world gathering to witness the historic event.

The Queen Anne, a stunning addition to Cunard’s fleet, was unveiled in all her glory. A true testament to the luxury and elegance that the cruise line is known for.

Richard Cross, Commercial manager for The Travel Village Group was also in attendance;

I have just returned from the naming ceremony of Cunard’s 249th ship Queen Anne in her spiritualist home of Liverpool.

The day started with watching the ship sail into the Mersey at around 6am on Monday 3rd June, many people had started to gather on the banks of the Mersey to witness the spectacle.

I was invited to join the Cunard team for a Champagne Afternoon Tea at Gino D’Acampo 360 Sky Bar on the 18th floor, offering unrivalled views of Queen Anne, the River Mersey and the city of Liverpool – this was the perfect venue for the pre-event gathering.  After enjoying a sumptuous afternoon tea, I made my way to the historic Liverpool Waterfront and for the ceremony at the Pier Head just prior to 4pm.

The festivities begin: music, dance, and more!

Throughout the whole day, the air was filled with the sounds of joy and celebration. The musical notes of a live orchestra echoed through the crowd, setting the perfect tone for an event of enchantment.

We were treated to a unique performance from world-renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, plus an impressive line up of talent including special performances from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts and Liverpudlian DJ Lauren Lo Sung.

Visitors were mesmerised by the graceful movements of dancers spinning in synchrony, their vibrant costumes adding an extra flair to the festivities. Laughter and chatter filled the air as guests mingled, sharing stories and toasting to the grandeur of the Queen Anne.

Guests and dignitaries unite

The Liverpool naming ceremony was not just a celebration of a magnificent ship but also a gathering of esteemed guests and dignitaries from far and wide. As the night progressed, the air hummed with excitement as VIPs mingled with enthusiastic onlookers, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and elegance. The bond shared among guests and dignitaries truly reflected the timeless allure of Cunard’s majestic Queen Anne.

Cunard officially named their newest ship, and in an industry first, Cunard revealed the City of Liverpool as the godparent for the new ship. Liverpool, being the historic birthplace of Cunard.

On behalf of the city, five distinguished Liverpool icons had been selected. They were to represent the city and officially name Queen Anne.

These distinguished women, embodied the heart and future of Liverpool. Just as Queen Anne does for Cunard. They had been chosen for their significant contributions to culture at a local, national or international level.

All proud Liverpudlians, they are Spice Girl and author Melanie C, broadcaster and community leader Ngunan Adamu, local restaurant entrepreneur Natalie Haywood, Liverpool music and cultural legend Jayne Casey, and British Olympian heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thomson.

The moment everyone had been eagerly awaiting finally arrived – the grand reveal of Queen Anne!
