When planning a cruise holiday, one of the common questions travellers ask is whether or not they can bring their own alcohol onboard. While each cruise line has their own policy, understanding these rules can help you avoid any surprises at the port.
Celebrity Cruises
Celebrity Cruises allows guests to bring two bottles of wine or champagne (750 ml each) per stateroom. These bottles must be carried on during embarkation. If you want to enjoy your wine in one of the dining rooms, a corkage fee of $25 per bottle applies. Beer, spirits, or any other alcoholic beverages are not permitted to be brought on board. Any additional alcohol purchased at ports or in the ship’s duty-free shop will be held until the end of the cruise.
Cunard
Cunard allows guests to bring one bottle of wine or champagne (750 ml) per person during embarkation. Any additional bottles will incur a corkage fee of $20 each. Like Celebrity, Cunard prohibits passengers from bringing spirits, beer, or other alcoholic beverages on board. Any alcohol purchased ashore or in duty-free will also be stored until the end of the voyage.
Disney Cruise Line
Disney Cruise Line is a family-oriented cruise, but still permits guests to bring limited alcohol on board. You may bring up to two bottles of unopened wine or champagne (750 ml each) or six beers (12 oz) per person over the age of 21. This must be done at the beginning of the cruise and at each port of call. A corkage fee of $26 applies if you want to consume your wine or champagne in the dining rooms. Spirits, liqueurs, or any other alcohol are not allowed to be brought on board.
Explora Journeys
Explora Journeys offers an all-inclusive luxury experience and, as such, does not permit guests to bring their own alcohol on board. The cruise line provides a wide selection of premium beverages as part of the package, so you can enjoy unlimited drinks without the need to bring your own.
MSC Cruises
MSC Cruises have a strict policy against bringing any alcohol on board, including wine and champagne. Any alcohol purchased in ports of call or in the onboard duty-free shops will be stored and returned to you on the last day of your cruise.
Oceania Cruises
Oceania Cruises allows guests to bring a limited amount of alcohol on board. Passengers can bring up to six bottles of wine or champagne (750 ml) per stateroom at embarkation. A corkage fee of $25 per bottle applies if consumed in public areas. Spirits and beer are not permitted, and any alcohol purchased during the cruise will be held until the end of the trip.
An exception however, is for people who are embarking upon a full world cruise. The limit for these guests is 60 bottles of wine or champagne per stateroom.
P&O Cruises
P&O Cruises permits guests to bring one litre of wine, champagne per person during embarkation. Any additional alcohol must be purchased on board or in port and will be stored until the end of the cruise. A corkage fee of £20 applies if you wish to drink your own wine or champagne in the dining rooms.
Princess Cruises
Princess Cruises allows passengers to bring one bottle of wine or champagne (750 ml) per person at embarkation. Spirits, beer, or other alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Any alcohol purchased at port or in duty-free shops will be held until the last day of the cruise.
Royal Caribbean International
Royal Caribbean permits guests to bring up to two bottles of wine or champagne (750 ml each) per stateroom at the beginning of the cruise. A corkage fee of $15 per bottle applies if consumed in public areas. No beer, spirits, or other alcohol can be brought on board, and any alcohol purchased at port or on the ship will be stored until the end of the voyage.
Virgin Voyages
Virgin Voyages allows guests to bring two bottles of wine or champagne (750 ml each) per cabin at embarkation. There is a corkage fee of $25 when consumed in restaurants. Spirits and other alcoholic beverages are not permitted, and any purchases made at port or in duty-free will be stored until disembarkation.
