While traditional cruise itineraries have often centred around daytime activities and tight schedules, there’s an exciting trend emerging in the industry: overnight port stays. Explore destinations at your own pace with more and more itineraries introducing late-night and early-morning departures.

Barbara Muckerman, CEO of Silversea Cruises, noticed an increase in passengers requesting staying overnight in ports, especially in destinations like Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro where they would be able to experience the lively nightlife. Silversea started offering overnights in both these cities last year and have plans to do the same in Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City this year.

Similarly, Regent Seven Seas allow guests to stay later at select ports like Hong Kong on Seven Seas Explorer. Passengers aboard Virgin Voyages’ will be able to hit the clubs till the early hours of the morning in Ibiza.

Overnights in port benefit the destinations too. More time spent on land means more money goes into the pockets of local businesses, for example, people are more likely to book longer sightseeing tours hosted by locals.
