Independence of the Seas – one of the UK’s most beloved cruise ships – makes a triumphant return to Southampton in 2025!
“Indy” hasn’t offered a summer season from Southampton since 2019, having been replaced by Anthem of the Seas in 2021. Her return to the UK in 2025 will signal her 10th time home-porting from Southampton. Cue fun cruise adventures to the Norwegian Fjords, Canary Islands, Mediterranean and more in 2025!
What’s Onboard?
She was ‘amplified’ in 2018, which meant refreshing the look of public areas, staterooms and the introduction of new features.

The Crazy Golf is a delight, and the children’s water park, ‘Splashaway Bay‘, is equally fun. With huge buckets pouring water over fun obstacles, it’s every child’s dream. Adjacent to it is ‘Fish & Ships’ – the ship’s own take on a classic chippy!
To those already familiar with the ship, Flowrider and the sports court have always been firm favourites; however, these days, there are also thrilling water slides that extend over the ship’s edge. For puzzle enthusiasts, the Escape room offers an immersive experience, challenging teams (great for friends and families!) to collaborate and solve mysteries.
The Royal Promenade is the ship’s lively heart, dotted with bars and shops, including the much-loved Schooners Bar for sing-alongs and Bolero’s for Latin rhythms.
Sports enthusiasts will revel in the Playmaker’s sports bar, with its multiple screens (over 30!) and mouthwatering snacks. It’s a fantastic meeting spot, and a features an impressive selection of beers.
If ships that offer the “big resort at sea” feel, with all the bells and whistles, are your preference, then this ship is right up your alley. Undeniably it’s perfect for families, but couples and groups of friends will find it just as amazing.
